EPP Spotlight: The Sam Houston St. Data Day Model

The Insight to Impact Dashboards Team hosted a Data Day Training Session in January that featured a panel of Education Preparation Program (EPP) leaders from across the state. As discussed at the January session, Data Days provide an opportunity for EPPs to build data skills, analyze data, and reflect on their data trends to determine next steps.

One of the panelists, Sam Houston State’s Dr. Casey Brown, shared a breakdown of what her college’s Data Day looks like in the latest EPP Spotlight. Her university’s College of Education hosts a half-day-long Data Day twice a year, attended by about 40 academic and non-academic staff members from across the college.

Former Dean Dr. Stacey Edmonson kicked off this year’s Data Day with an introduction, followed by a keynote address from Dr. Glenn Phillips, a researcher who has worked for decades in program- and institutional-level assessment. Dr. Phillips spoke to the “big picture” of the attendees’ work and how powerful narratives create impact.

The Data Day then switched to interactive breakout sessions covering topics such as course accessibility, data analytics, and tools, including the Insight to Impact Dashboards, Qualtrics, NotebookLM, Anthology, AI, and University Analytics.

A second breakout session ensued to ensure staff members could attend multiple topics, which was then followed by an expert panel on making data-driven decisions. Door prizes were then awarded before Data Day concluded with program and unit discussions.
