INSIGHT TO IMPACT

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the Insight to Impact Dashboards?

TEA has developed data dashboards for educator preparation programs across Texas. These online dashboards provide Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) with user-friendly access to actionable data about their processes and outcomes and are available at no charge. These dashboards help EPPs in understanding their program and building continuous improvement efforts so they can more effectively train teachers. The goal is to ensure Texas teachers are ready to inspire and serve all students from day one.

Research was conducted to learn what EPPs would find impactful in these dashboards. Stakeholders from a diverse group of EPPs were selected from the wide variety of programs in the state, and they provided input on what data they felt should be included.

Who can access the Insight to Impact Dashboards?

EPPs will decide who can access their organization’s dashboards. Each EPP has a designated primary approver that will grant individuals access to view the Insight to Impact Dashboards. Once the primary approver approves an individual’s request, the request will be sent to TEA for approval.

If an EPP works with a Technical Assistance provider and would like to provide them with access to their Insight to Impact Dashboards, this can be done at the discretion of the EPP’s primary approver. If access is provided to a Technical Assistance provider, they must only be granted aggregate views, roles without Individual Details.

How can I access the dashboards?

Access is granted to the dashboard online through the Texas Education Agency Login (TEAL) system. Instructions can be found on the home page of the Insight to Impact Academy website. In addition, a video on requesting access can be viewed here.

If you have issues logging into your TEAL account, please submit a TEAL Access Help Desk ticket.

What kind of access is available?

Users can request access to four roles:

  • EPP User with Individual Data
  • EPP User without Individual Data
  • Professional Role EPP User with Individual Data
  • Professional Role EPP User without Individual Data

The EPP User role provides access to dashboards containing teacher preparation data only. Professional Role EPP User provides access to dashboards containing data on counselors, principals, reading specialists, educational diagnosticians, and librarians.

Roles that include Individual Data will display names and TEA IDs for candidates. Roles without Individual Data will only show aggregate visuals.

Instructions can be found on the home page of the Insight to Impact Academy website. In addition, a video on requesting access can be viewed here <hyperlink video>.

Recommendations: ensure that your TEAL account is associated with your EPP-associated email.

Where does the data that populates the dashboards come from?

The information aggregated in the dashboards will come from the following places:

  • The Educator Certification Online System (ECOS). This includes data reported by EPPs, candidates, LEAs, and testing vendors.
  • The Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS). This includes data reported by LEAs.
  • Survey data collected through Qualtrics.

How frequently is the data updated?

Much of the utilized data is collected annually and refreshed accordingly. This includes survey data and employment data. Data regularly collected, such as candidate enrollment information, is refreshed weekly.

Who do I contact if I think the data about my program is incorrect/inaccurate?

Currently, there are many processes that allow EPPs to review their raw data, as it is reported in ECOS. If the data is incorrect, EPPs can correct it in ECOS or file the appropriate RFE. Additionally, EPPs review survey rosters prior to data finalization.

If the EPP believes that correct data has been reported but the dashboard is inaccurate, this may be due to the business rules established in the dashboards that aggregate the data.

If an EPP still has concerns about the data, they can file a Help Desk ticket. When doing so, please be sure to include details that will help us review the data. This can include screenshots or details about the data you have reported.

To what extent do the dashboards support state and federal reporting requirements?

The primary purpose of the dashboards is for continuous improvement, not state and federal reporting.

The data being aggregated is collected from state reporting (via ECOS) but utilizes specific definitions and business rules that do not necessarily align with state accountability, such as the Accountability System for Educator Preparation (ASEP), or federal reporting, such as Title II.

How is this information kept safe?

EPP users must use their TEAL login to see their data. This is the same security that is used by ECOS. To maintain confidentiality, EPP primary approvers determine who can access person-level views for their candidates. Moreover, person-level views are not available to anyone outside of the EPP. In addition, when individuals leave an EPP, access to the Insight to Impact Dashboards can be revoked by submitting a Help Desk ticket.

Can I export from the dashboards?

Due to the way dashboard access is provided, exporting from the dashboards will not be an option.

What support is available for the Insight to Impact Dashboards?

The Insight to Impact Academy website has navigation instructions for all of the dashboards. In addition, protocols for describing, framing, analyzing, and acting based on the dashboard data can be found on the website. Finally, video resources are also available.
