I2I: Increasing Data Availability

The Insight to Impact (I2I) Dashboards were created to provide educator preparation programs (EPPs) with user-friendly access to actionable data about their processes and outcomes at no charge. With the dashboards’ ability to effectively aggregate data from multiple sources in one area, they reduce the need to frequently create ad hoc public information requests from TEA for data that EPPs can use for programmatic improvement.

Before the implementation of the I2I Dashboards, EPPs would have to submit formal paperwork to TEA to receive fine-grained data related to their respective candidates, particularly post-preparation. This process was time-consuming for EPPs because they had to complete the required submission and iterate on the data request to ensure the proper data was delivered. Once the data was received, EPPs still had to process and match the data before dedicating further time to aggregating it. Only after undergoing those steps could the EPP focus on its primary purpose: identifying trends in the data to inform practices and impact candidate preparation.

With the I2I Dashboards, that process has been streamlined, allowing EPPs to examine that data at their convenience. For example, before the dashboards, an EPP interested in discovering where their candidates were placed post-preparation would need to request multiple datasets from TEA and then process and match the data locally. Now that information is readily available on the Initial Employment Dashboard in a visually digestible manner. Since the data can be filtered and the visuals dynamically change, this allows EPPs to disaggregate their data in a multitude of ways.

Moreover, a variety of individuals within an EPP can access these dashboards to achieve their different data needs. Current users have found numerous uses for the dashboards, including program planning, marketing and reporting.

As one can see, the Insight to Impact Dashboards improve the data landscape by making more data available to a broader group of EPP users. However, if needed, other data resources are still available through TEA, including completed studies, public dashboards and datasets provided to legal authorities through ShareFile.
